Bluewater 31 ft sloop built in England by the 200+ year old firm of Camper Nicholson in 1976 to Lloyd's standards for Offshore world cruising.
Seeing the heavy storm tri-sail with it's dedicated separate mast track and the adjustable precision stainless reef clamps on the boom resting on a sturdy boom crutch - it becomes apparent that this is no ordinary sailboat.
The sail inventory includes a new offshore grade 130% dacron headsail on Harken Rollerfurling, a good dacron main with traditional double reefing setup, a quad-stitched heavy storm tri-sail for the separate storm mast track and a spinnaker with spinnaker pole in rack on deck.
Auxiliary engine is a reliable Beta 20 Diesel engine with new transmission powering an 18 inch bronze two blade prop through a PSS Packless Shaft Seal.
Includes a new Interstate 12 volt starting battery besides the House batteries and engine room winter heater.
The three charging systems include engine generator, a shore power Charles C-Charger 5000 Series 10 amp charger and a 100 watt solar panel with Sunsaver controller.
Lighting is LED for running, anchor and most interior lights.
Ground tackle includes a 35 lb CQR anchor on starboard bow roller with approximately 100 ft of chain plus 5/8 in nylon rode hauled in by new Maxwell electric & manual anchor windlass, a Danforth 20 lb Hi-tensile anchor with chain and nylon rode in port bow anchor rack, plus a Lewmar 35 lb claw anchor and 200 ft of rode in cockpit locker.
Anchor locker in bow also contains a bollard for quick secure attachment.
At nav station in salon is a Standard Horizon Matrix AIS/GPS Marine Radio with remote mic station and display in cockpit with tiller steering, bulkhead mounted Ritchie compass , Autohelm ST 4000, Sayers Wind-vane Self-steering, Tridata depth/speed/trip indicators, 110 shore power receptacle, 30 ft approved cord, transom mounted swim ladder, manual bilge pump for backup with 12 v. pump in bilge, and horeshoe livesaving bouy on stern rail.
Interior also includes Force 10 Stove/Oven, propane with leak detector system with automatic shutoff.
There are new cushion covers and port curtains, a large vee-berth with steps to cabintop hatch, a compost head with lockers of foul weather gear, life preservers, storm straps and saltwater desalination kit.
An 8 ft Walker Bay sailing rowing dinghy with mast, sail, center board, rudder, tiller, anchor and oars is included and can be secured on foredeck as you see.
In August 2023 Tadmor was hauled and the below waterline surface was taken down to original, inspected, found free of blisters and 2 coats of Interlux Interprotect 2000E barrier coat applied followed by 2 coats of CPP Antifouling paint black.
At that time the bronze prop was wire wheeled and 4 coats of Interlux Primocon applied as well as new zincs installed.
The boat sails magnificently as well as "drives" incredibly well upwind into current and rolling seas due to excellent design, her cutaway forefoot and 15,000 lb. displacement - built for those typical English Channel and North Sea conditions.
Please note that this vessel is not primarily a Coastal Cruiser and all upgrades have been made consistent with the original offshore Bluewater intent, for example in the accompanying images see the new headsail of strong offshore construction, the mast has a separate dedicated mast track for its triple-stitched Storm Tri-sail, the windscoop self-steering mechanism is simple (free from cords & pulleys) with HD bronze gearing to its independent rudder, see self-tailing winches, HD toe rail cars and note that stainless reefing hooks on boom are on adjustable tracks for maximum sail tension.
In addition to having convenient steps for exiting through the forehatch, unlike many coastal cruisers there is an absense of towering welded apparatuses for solar energy and dinghy davits which cause pendulum rocking and knockdowns in the open seas.
So, having been a yacht broker, marine surveyor and owning over 33 boats, the Camper Nicholson 31 is my choice for crossing open waters to far destinations.
